Retinol is one of the most effective active ingredients added to cosmetics. Its properties can dramatically improve the quality and appearance of the skin.
Retinol is best known as an ingredient in anti-aging creams, but its use is much wider in cosmetics.
1. Retinol stimulates fibroblasts to produce elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid. Thanks to this, we call vitamin A the vitamin of youth.
2. It can be used as preventive care, but also as a strong anti-aging product. It all depends on what product you choose. You can also combine treatments – adding vitamin C brings spectacular results.
3. Retinol can be used as a peeling treatment – it is micro-exfoliation, which means that these processes are not visible to us during the application. The effect depends on the time and frequency of application.
We can use the cream at home or perform a very strong treatment in a professional beauty salon (this is an advanced procedure and can only be performed by certified and trained personnel)
4. It works perfectly on enlarged pores and impure skin, e.g. black spots on the nose or lumps under the skin.
5. Retinol (as a dermo-cosmetic) is often the only one that deals with deep and painful acne lesions or pimples on the jaw (hormonal problems).
The skin is smoothed and visibly brightened. It is very effective in removing acne scars.
Important
Isotretinoin
We can also use vitamin A in the form of a dermatological treatment against acne. This is a pill treatment that can only be prescribed by a dermatologist.
This is the most effective form of treatment, however, there are many side effects of this type of therapy.
6. Retinol has an antioxidant effect that prevents skin aging.
7. Retinol additionally stimulates the formation of new blood vessels – better blood supply and nourishment of the skin from the inside.
Using products with retinol alone can end badly. In most cases, women who misuse these products think they are allergic to them, which is not true.
At first, retinol dries and tightens the skin (we need to use a special adaptation technique), but over time, the skin needs to be hydrated and well moisturized. Its general condition and vitality are improving.
We see the best results with long-term use of the product and, sometimes, choosing the right product can take time. Using a special adaptation technique for the skin beforehand will reduce the risks of irritation.
Concentrations: They can be found in different concentrations and different chemical variations.
SPF: One thing is certain – it is an ingredient that makes skin sensitive to the sun and requires UV protection.
Retinol stays in the skin and works for a long time. If you use night cream, during the day, it will still be present in your skin. You must apply sunblock.
Niacinamide is great to complement the retinol treatment, it will strengthen the skin and reduce the feeling of dryness at the beginning of the retinol treatment.
The recommendation:
The most active products can be bought in a pharmacy or at the chemist’s. Those bought in regular stores are usually too low in concentration or in the wrong chemical form.
It is better to ask experts in pharmacies to choose the best retinol type for your skin type, specific problem, and desired effect.
You must take into account that in addition to buying a cream with retinol, you should also buy sunblock, a new moisturizing cream or a nourishing one, appropriate make-up remover, and serum.
